Nothing beats the support of a good GP

It is of no secret that I don't have the most patience with GP's.

Went to collect a lady today that was described as having acute confusion. Common thing amongst old people. However what is not common is being told that if you come anywhere near her she is going to attack you with the boiling hot tea cup in her hand.

I mean who attacks with a tea cup?

Regardless we don't have the right to forcibly remove someone. We rang the GP as it was pretty obvious this poor lady didn't have the mental capacity to refuse transport to ask what he wanted to do.

When explaining to the GP that the patient was refusing to go anywhere and threatening to attakc us his response was "Well on my notes it says that she agreed with me to go to hospital"

Oh thanks fucking Einstein. I'll tell the lady that the GP said she should go. Even though she thinks the carers are poisoning her food. For fucks sake you useless old fart, just because your barely legible paperwork says the woman wants to go doesn't mean that she wants to go any more.

Also asking us "Can't you try convincing her?" what in fucks name do you think we were doing? Do you think we said "fair enough lets go home" when we see a clearly very ill woman with no mental clarity. She has a page and a half of medication which she hasn't taken for days because she is so confused.

Why in christs name was she not sectioned? Oh yes thats right because shes not ill enough to be sectioned. GP plan was to wait for her to get more ill and section her. Why in christs name are you sending a patient to a place full of sick people and infection if she is not ill enough. I'll tell you why. Because you are a useless sack of shit lazy GP that is more interested in staying at the surgery than actually looking after people in your care.

It's no wonder that most of people I work alongside think GP stands for "Get Paramedic". It concerns me that the firs line of help for most people is their GP and despite fact he believed the woman needed to be in hospital for assessment he did not feel it was worth him coming out and calling a social worker to section her.

Don't get me wrong I don't believe a section is always correct but if this woman was as ill as he thought and seemed to be then it was in her interest to be sectioned and she was missing so many drugs that should be in her system including such amusment as opiate withdrawl but not enough for a doctor to do something useful.
