A big part of what I do involves the equipment I am provided with. Now granted it is a bit of get what you are given however occasionally this equipment is updated with newer models.
Great!
Well not so. You would think people would ask those that actually use it what we think of it. Take for example a Lifepak 15. It is very pretty the batteries last AGES however unless it is mounted centrally the ambulance is going to look as if the suspension is fucked. I have no idea why it needs to be so heavy. I am going to have to take special care to ensure every job I alternate which arm I carry it with else I will look like I spend too much time on one arm bandits or (more likely) that I really need to spend less time in a darkend room on the internet.
Given the amount of money invested in trying to reduce the amount of manual handling in the profession it amazes me that we have picked one of the heaviest bits of kit already present on the ambulance and decided to replace it with something that comparitively is like replacing kylie minogue with dawn french.
It may have all kinds of interesting extra bits to play with however you would suspect if it ended up on your face it would cause more damage than its worth.
