BBC News Article
I would like to say I'm sorry for the inevitable backlash that this post is going to cause, but I'm not.
This is same old bollocks from parents who think the "I've got a child therefore I am right" argument means that they can spout off any old crap they feel like. Because ONE child died without complications of swine flu this of course means that a good use of NHS money is to vaccinate all under fives because POSSIBLY that ONE child might have survived.
Now aside from the issue that this child could have been vaccinated last year for swine flu for free why do people have such an unbalanced view of the NHS?
OF COURSE the NHS has to make decisions based on risk and benefit. It has a limited budget and the regulatory authorities have a moral obligation to try and do the most for the most with the money they have available.
Now I in no way detract from the pain suffered by that family but unfortunately somebody somewhere has made the difficult decision that the money needed to immunise three million people could be better spent than preventing on death.
Read the comments on that page - some fucking moron is asking why over 65's should be getting the vaccine before children. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? Clearly this person has no idea the way illness effects the elderly YES REGARDLESS OF HOW ACTIVE THEY ARE it takes them longer to recover, much longer.
Furthermore it is not a fallacy Mr Biomedical degree cunt to say that you can save more lives investing the money somewhere else. What you have in fact done is say that because of current investment fifty people died in London bombings therefore it needs less funding.
No you fucking twat what it means is that it would cost a set amount to reduce that to 49 that might be better spent elsewhere. It in no way indicates what would happen if you removed defence funding. For someone with a degree and pissing around in cancer research for fifteen years (Seriously how much funding and you still haven't cured it?) you would think you would understand your extrapolation is worthy of a retard with a head injury.
I am sick to death of parents losing all sense of perspective in the world and arguing that a child's life is worth hundreds of adults. Unfortunately children die. Even if all the money in the NHS was diverted to paediatric care children would still die. Parents will never be happy with that but it is regrettably part of life.
I do feel for families and my own experiences with children dieing have been horrific but that doesn't mean that people are neccesarily to blame just because billions of pounds were not spent on that one life.
I personally think most people would be unhappy at what in the NHS would have to be given up to vaccinate three million children needlessly if they were honest. No doubt more would die then and there would be an equally sensationalist news article about the waste of NHS money. It would be even more absurd if a child died through a reaction to the vaccination...
To the fucking brain dead egg plant that think everyone up to the age of 18 needs vaccinating despite experienced specialist medical advice: This is why you are still on benefits you turd eating, scrotum tickling, frontal lobe damaged arse.
